Indianapolis, IN – Two male juveniles were taken into custody on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department IMPD officers were searching the 6800 block of E 21st Street for a reported stolen vehicle. An officer utilized Automated License Plate Reader ALPR technology to identify and locate the vehicle nearby.
As officers attempted a traffic stop, the two occupants fled the vehicle on foot. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun. A perimeter was established, and additional resources, including a police drone and a K 9 unit, were deployed to assist in the search. Both suspects were eventually apprehended; one was taken into custody in a residential area, while the second was found hiding in an overgrown area. The second suspect failed to comply with verbal commands, leading officers to deploy less lethal rounds to complete the arrest.
During a subsequent search of the area, detectives recovered two 9mm handguns, one of which was confirmed stolen. The vehicle was also confirmed as stolen and successfully recovered. The suspects face preliminary charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine final charges. IMPD officials highlighted the incident as an example of effective resource coordination. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
