Indianapolis, IN – Remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to move through the Ohio Valley this weekend, bringing the potential for rainfall exceeding 2 inches in parts of Indiana Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 11, although the heaviest amounts will depend on the storm's final track.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis said Thursday morning that southern Indiana could receive up to 2 inches of rain, with varying probabilities for heavier rainfall across central and southern portions of the state.
In Indianapolis, forecasters estimate approximately a 75% probability of rainfall exceeding one quarter inch during the 48 hour period. The probability of receiving more than half an inch is around 60%, while the chance of exceeding 1 inch is approximately 30%.
The probability of rainfall exceeding 2 inches in Indianapolis is much lower, near 10%.
Farther south, Bloomington and Vincennes have higher probabilities of significant rainfall.
Bloomington has approximately an 85% chance of exceeding one quarter inch, a 70% chance of exceeding half an inch and a 45% chance of receiving more than 1 inch.
Vincennes faces similar probabilities, including approximately a 55% chance of exceeding 1 inch and a 20% chance of rainfall topping 2 inches.
Meanwhile, Lafayette has lower rainfall probabilities, with roughly a 10% chance of exceeding 1 inch.
Muncie and Terre Haute also have opportunities for measurable rainfall, although the likelihood of heavier totals varies by location.
The weather service emphasized that exact rainfall amounts remain uncertain and will depend on the eventual path of the tropical remnants through the Ohio Valley.
Residents across central and southern Indiana should monitor updated forecasts heading into Saturday, particularly as forecasters refine the storm's track and expected rainfall distribution.
