Indianapolis, IN – Residents across central Indiana should prepare for a sharp temperature drop heading into the weekend, with overnight lows potentially falling into the upper 20s Saturday morning before warmer conditions return early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a cold front will move through the region late Thursday into Friday, bringing cooler temperatures, a slight chance of rain and chilly overnight conditions.
Thursday will remain relatively mild, with afternoon highs ranging from 59 to 64 degrees across central Indiana.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected, although some clearing may develop, particularly across southern portions of the region. Thursday night lows will range from 41 to 45 degrees, with a chance of rain developing late.
By Friday, temperatures will begin falling as the cold front moves through. Afternoon highs are forecast between 52 and 57 degrees, with rain chances mainly during the morning hours.
Friday night temperatures could drop between 32 and 36 degrees, approaching the freezing mark in some communities.
The coldest conditions are expected Saturday morning, when temperatures across central Indiana could fall between 28 and 32 degrees.
These readings could produce freezing conditions, particularly in rural areas and locations outside the warmer Indianapolis urban center.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider bringing them indoors or providing protection before temperatures fall below freezing.
Saturday afternoon will feature decreasing clouds and highs between 53 and 55 degrees.
Sunday will bring additional sunshine, with afternoon temperatures recovering to between 57 and 59 degrees following morning lows of 31 to 35 degrees.
A more noticeable warming trend arrives Monday, when highs are expected to reach 60 to 64 degrees.
The National Weather Service expects mostly dry weather through the weekend and into early next week, with temperatures gradually moderating through Wednesday.
Although daytime temperatures will generally remain above normal, overnight lows will stay below seasonal averages, creating a significant contrast between afternoon warmth and chilly mornings.
