Indianapolis, IN – Authorities in Indianapolis took decisive action on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to halt a series of dangerous stunt driving incidents on the city's west side. In a multi agency operation involving the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department IMPD , the Indiana State Police, and the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department, six individuals were arrested and their vehicles seized.
According to the IMPD, the coordinated enforcement effort spanned several hours as officers observed motorists engaging in erratic behavior. Police reported that drivers were spinning vehicles in local parking lots, obstructing traffic at busy intersections, and operating their vehicles in close proximity to unsuspecting bystanders. Authorities described these activities as a severe risk to public safety rather than mere exhibition.
Following the dispersal of the crowds, the six arrested drivers were booked on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, which is classified as a level 6 felony. One individual taken into custody was also found to have an active failure to appear warrant related to a separate reckless driving case in Johnson County. Officials involved in the operation confirmed that several specific case numbers were processed: IP260075832, IP260075827, IP260075847, IP260075849, and IP260075856.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that such dangerous conduct will not be tolerated in Indianapolis. The departments involved have vowed to continue their enforcement strategy, utilizing all available legal tools to prosecute those who block intersections or engage in reckless maneuvers. Citizens are encouraged to report illegal spinning or street takeover events by contacting 911 or the department’s non emergency line at 317 327 3811.
