Indianapolis, IN – Multiple vehicles caught fire at an Indianapolis collision repair business Tuesday night, with flames spreading into a two story building and causing significant roof damage before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department , crews responded around 10:17 p.m. Tuesday to Williamson Collision Center, located at 4979 Massachusetts Ave., after receiving reports of several vehicles burning near the building.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had extended from the vehicles into the structure, creating a potentially dangerous situation for crews working to prevent additional damage.
Firefighters launched an aggressive attack, using ground crews and an aerial ladder truck to direct water onto the burning structure.
Photographs shared by the department show firefighters operating on the roof while additional personnel worked from the ground.
Several emergency vehicles, fire hoses and crews surrounded the property as firefighters battled the flames.
Despite the intensity of the incident, officials reported that the fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Firefighters were able to keep interior damage to a minimum, preventing the flames from causing more extensive destruction inside the business.
However, the roof sustained significant damage.
Images from the scene show portions of the roof heavily affected by the fire, with firefighters working above the structure to extinguish remaining flames.
The department confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Officials did not immediately release an estimate of the financial damage or indicate how many vehicles were destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Fire Department's Fire Investigations Unit.
Authorities have not announced whether the blaze began in one of the vehicles or elsewhere on the property.
The incident highlights the rapid spread of fire when burning vehicles are located close to commercial buildings.
Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the blaze as they work to determine its origin.
