INDIANAPOLIS — Open enrollment for 2027 health insurance begins Sunday, Nov. 1, giving Indiana residents an opportunity to compare Marketplace plans, review premiums and determine whether they qualify for financial assistance.
Indiana uses the federal Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov . Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 15, 2027 . Residents who enroll or change plans by Dec. 15 can have coverage begin Jan. 1, while people enrolling from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15 generally receive coverage beginning Feb. 1.
What Indiana residents should check Indianapolis area residents and consumers statewide should compare monthly health insurance premiums, deductibles, co pays, out of pocket maximums, prescription drug coverage and whether preferred doctors and hospitals remain in network.
Consumers should also update their expected 2027 household income and family information because those details can affect eligibility for premium tax credits and other Marketplace savings.
HealthCare.gov allows consumers to enter their ZIP code, household size and estimated income to preview available 2027 health insurance plans and estimated prices. Those estimates can include savings for which a household appears eligible.
Returning Marketplace customers should review their coverage even if they are satisfied with their current plan. Indiana's enrollment guidance recommends checking how benefits and costs may change, confirming doctors and hospitals remain in network and reviewing prescription drug coverage before choosing a plan.
Indiana Marketplace coverage varies by insurer and county Indiana's Marketplace includes multiple private insurers, but available companies and plans can vary significantly by county.
For 2026, participating Marketplace companies included Anthem, CareSource, Cigna, Coordinated Care and UnitedHealthcare , with some insurers serving all or nearly all 92 counties and others operating in a much smaller geographic footprint. Indiana has not yet posted an equally clear consumer facing 2027 carrier by county table, so residents should use HealthCare.gov to confirm which plans are actually available at their ZIP code.
That county by county variation makes comparison particularly important for Hoosiers in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Evansville and smaller communities.
Enrollment deadlines matter Indiana residents who want health insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2027 , should enroll or make plan changes by Dec. 15 .
Open enrollment continues through Jan. 15, 2027 . Coverage generally begins Feb. 1 for consumers who enroll from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15.
After Jan. 15, most consumers need to qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in or change Marketplace coverage.
Qualifying events can include losing other health insurance, getting married, having a child or certain changes in residence. Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program can accept applications throughout the year for people who qualify.
Indiana residents can compare 2027 health insurance plans, estimate potential savings and enroll through HealthCare.gov .
