Indianapolis, IN – A major narcotics investigation in Indianapolis has resulted in two arrests and the seizure of more than 1,500 pounds of psychedelic mushrooms, along with firearms, cash and other suspected drugs, authorities announced Thursday, October 22.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department IMPD , detectives worked alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration, Indiana State Police and Beech Grove Police Department during a coordinated investigation that began following a fatal overdose in early 2026.
Massive Mushroom Seizure Valued at Millions
On Wednesday, October 21, investigators executed search warrants at multiple Indianapolis locations, recovering more than 1,500 pounds of unprocessed psilocybin mushrooms.
Police estimated the unprocessed mushrooms alone were worth between $2.1 million and $4.2 million.
Additional seizures included 25 pounds of dried mushrooms, 66 pounds of mushroom edibles, 277 pounds of mushroom infused drinks, six pounds of marijuana and hundreds of suspected counterfeit pills.
Investigators also recovered two sawed off shotguns, three AR style pistols, two AR style rifles, approximately $9,500 and two vehicles.
Two Men Arrested Following Investigation
Authorities arrested a 41 year old man and a 26 year old man in connection with the investigation.
Both men face preliminary allegations involving dealing and possession of controlled substances.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will determine final charges.
Police have not established the men's guilt, and both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Police Cite Fatal Overdose Investigation
IMPD Lt. Justin Gough said the operation reflects the department's commitment to pursuing investigations following overdose deaths.
“This investigation represents more than just a major drug seizure,” Gough said.
Authorities emphasized that investigators will continue working to remove suspected illegal drugs from Indianapolis neighborhoods.
The investigation remains subject to further prosecutorial review.
