Indianapolis, IN – Unseasonably warm and dry weather will continue across central Indiana through Friday, Oct. 9, with afternoon temperatures climbing as high as 87 degrees before tropical remnants bring the potential for rain Saturday night into Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis said Thursday morning that dry air could contribute to a slightly elevated fire danger through Friday, urging residents to burn responsibly as warm conditions persist.
Thursday will feature sunshine and occasional breezy conditions, with afternoon highs ranging from 76 to 84 degrees across central Indiana. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 47 and 53 degrees.
Friday, Oct. 9, will bring even warmer conditions, with highs reaching 80 to 87 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Overnight lows will remain considerably milder, ranging from 56 to 60 degrees.
The combination of dry air and continued warmth could increase the potential for fires to spread, particularly where vegetation remains dry. The weather service has not indicated a formal fire weather warning in the supplied outlook.
Saturday will bring increasing cloud cover and breezy conditions, with highs between 78 and 82 degrees. Overnight lows are expected to range from 59 to 61 degrees.
Rain chances are expected to return Saturday night into Sunday as tropical remnants move into the region. The weather service did not specify rainfall totals or exact probabilities in its three day outlook.
The arrival of moisture would mark a change from the recent stretch of dry weather across central Indiana.
Residents should remain cautious with outdoor burning through Friday and monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts for more specific rainfall timing and amounts as the weekend approaches.
