Indianapolis, IN – Election Day across central Indiana will bring unusually warm temperatures and gusty winds Tuesday, Nov. 3, before widespread rain moves into the region overnight, setting up a wet Wednesday and cooler conditions heading into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Tuesday will remain largely dry, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and wind gusts potentially reaching 35 mph. Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb between 75 and 78 degrees before dropping into the upper 50s and lower 60s overnight.
Election Day Winds Could Affect Travel
Residents heading to polling locations Tuesday should prepare for breezy conditions, particularly along open roads and exposed areas.
While widespread rainfall is not expected during most daytime voting hours, stronger gusts could make driving more challenging for high profile vehicles.
The forecast covers central Indiana, including Indianapolis and surrounding communities in Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Johnson and nearby counties.
Conditions are expected to change late Tuesday night as widespread rain develops across the region.
Wednesday Brings Widespread Rain
Rain will continue into Wednesday, Nov. 4, with the greatest coverage expected during the earlier part of the day.
The National Weather Service expects rainfall coverage to gradually decrease Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday's temperatures will be noticeably cooler, with highs ranging from 67 to 71 degrees and overnight lows falling between 45 and 50 degrees.
Drivers should anticipate wet roads during the morning commute and allow additional travel time where rainfall becomes heavier.
Cooler, Drier Weather Returns Thursday
By Thursday, Nov. 5, partly cloudy skies and dry conditions are expected to return across central Indiana.
High temperatures will range from 62 to 67 degrees, with overnight lows between 42 and 48 degrees.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts from the National Weather Service in Indianapolis as the timing of overnight rainfall becomes clearer.
