Hobart, IN – A resident was taken to the hospital and four pets were rescued after a house fire in Hobart on Monday, according to local fire officials.
According to the Hobart Fire Department , firefighters responded Monday to a structure fire in the 2600 block of Drexel Drive . Crews moved quickly to bring the blaze under control and contained the fire to the home's kitchen.
Firefighters rescued three dogs and one cat from the residence during the response, the department said. One occupant was transported to a hospital. Officials did not immediately provide additional information about the person's condition.
Photos released by the department show firefighters gathered outside the residence as hoses stretched across the property. Other images from inside the home show significant fire and smoke damage around the kitchen area, including damage to the ceiling.
The response occurred in Hobart, a Lake County community in Northwest Indiana within the greater Chicago metropolitan area.
Despite the visible damage inside the residence, officials said the fire was successfully contained to the kitchen. The department credited the quick response and work of its crews for limiting the spread.
Officials did not immediately announce an estimate of the damage or say whether the home remained habitable following the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation , according to the Hobart Fire Department. No additional details about what may have sparked the blaze were immediately released.
Residents should avoid interfering with active fire scenes and give emergency crews room to work when apparatus and hoses are positioned along neighborhood streets.
