Hammond, IN – Drivers traveling Interstate 94 through Northwest Indiana face new ramp and lane closures beginning Thursday at the State Road 912, or Cline Avenue, interchange in Lake County, with some restrictions continuing into late November.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, ramps from both eastbound and westbound I 94 to northbound State Road 912 are scheduled to close for approximately four days beginning on or after Thursday. The right lane of southbound State Road 912 will also close between 169th Street/15th Avenue and I 94.
The closures are needed for punch list bridge repairs.
Meanwhile, the ramp from northbound State Road 912 to westbound I 94 remains closed through approximately Sept. 20 for bridge deck overlay work over the Little Calumet River. INDOT& 39;s detour sends motorists east on I 94 to the Burr Street interchange, where they can turn around and access westbound I 94.
Additional restrictions are scheduled to begin on or after Wednesday, Sept. 16, as bridge deck overlay work continues over railroad tracks east of the interchange.
Those restrictions are expected to remain through late November and include closure of the ramp from northbound State Road 912 to eastbound I 94. Drivers will be detoured north to U.S. 20/12 before turning around to reach eastbound I 94.
A right lane on the southbound State Road 912 ramp to eastbound I 94 will also close, along with a right lane on the westbound I 94 ramp serving State Road 912.
The work affects a major interchange serving Hammond, Gary, Highland and motorists traveling across Lake County and the Chicago metropolitan area. Drivers should expect changing traffic patterns and allow extra travel time.
