Gas City, IN – More than 200 manufacturing workers in Grant County are expected to permanently lose their jobs as American Woodmark Corporation eliminates assembly operations at its Gas City facility beginning in December.
According to an Oct. 5 WARN notice, American Woodmark, a subsidiary of MasterBrand Inc., plans to eliminate assembly operations at its manufacturing facility at 5300 Eastside Parkway Drive in Gas City, northeast of the Indianapolis metro area.
The workforce reduction could affect up to 207 employees.
The first separations are expected to occur Friday, Dec. 5, or within 14 days of that date. Additional layoffs will follow, with the company expecting all affected positions to be eliminated by Jan. 8, 2027, or within 14 days afterward.
While assembly operations are being eliminated, the company said finishing operations at the Gas City facility will continue.
American Woodmark said it will eliminate positions directly connected to assembly operations while also consolidating other jobs. The resulting layoffs are expected to be permanent.
The WARN notice states that none of the affected workers are represented by a union or covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Employees also will not have bumping rights that would allow them to displace other workers based on seniority.
The company said it is providing affected employees with 60 days' notice of their separations or ensuring impacted workers receive 60 days' pay and benefits.
The cuts represent a significant manufacturing employment reduction for Gas City and the surrounding Grant County community as the layoffs begin during the final weeks of 2026.
