Gary, IN – A 26 year old woman from Gary lost her life Monday night after a pickup truck left the roadway, struck several guardrail posts and entered a ditch in a deadly single vehicle crash in northwest Indiana.
According to the Lake County Sheriff 's Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, to the 4200 block of Cleveland Street in Gary following reports of a serious crash involving a possible ejection.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2022 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck was traveling southbound on Cleveland Street when it veered left off the roadway.
Investigators said the vehicle struck several guardrail posts before eventually coming to rest in a ditch.
Woman Found Outside Vehicle When authorities arrived, they located a 26 year old woman outside the pickup truck. She was unresponsive and died from her injuries at the scene.
The Sheriff's Department confirmed that the woman was a Gary resident. Her identity was not included in the department's initial public statement.
Authorities have not confirmed whether she was driving or riding as a passenger when the crash occurred.
Investigators also said it remains unclear whether the woman was the only occupant of the Jeep at the time of the collision.
Investigation Remains Active Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.
Officials have not released information about what caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway or whether speed, road conditions or other factors contributed to the collision.
The crash occurred along Cleveland Street in Gary, part of the northwest Indiana region near Chicago.
Additional findings may become available as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
