Gary, IN – The Lake County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency announced that a "One Stop Shop" will open to provide disaster relief assistance to residents. The center will be located at the United Steelworkers Local 1014, at 1301 Texas St., Gary, IN 46402.
Services will be offered from Wednesday, September 23, 2026, through Friday, September 25, 2026, and will resume from Monday, September 28, 2026, through Friday, October 2, 2026. The operating hours for the facility are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time.
Representatives on site will assist homeowners and renters with applying for the FEMA Individual Assistance program and the State Disaster Relief Fund. Additional support services available at the site include insurance guidance, mold cleanup best practices, information on business and individual loans, and tetanus shots. Disaster unemployment assistance information will also be provided.
Residents seeking additional guidance or transportation resources are encouraged to dial 211. All services are free to survivors and no appointments are necessary. Full details regarding the recovery efforts can be found online at on.in.gov/August2026Disaster .
