Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana residents could experience record challenging November warmth Tuesday, Nov. 3, as afternoon temperatures climb into the 70s before a significant increase in rain chances arrives overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, gusty southerly winds will help push temperatures well above seasonal averages, with some communities approaching daily record highs.
Temperatures Could Challenge November Records Forecasters expect afternoon highs generally ranging from the lower to upper 70s across northern Indiana, including communities in Allen, St. Joseph, Elkhart and surrounding counties.
Fort Wayne's daily record high for Nov. 3 is 76 degrees, established in 1987 and tied in 2003. South Bend's record is also 76 degrees, set in 1987.
Tuesday's forecast places several locations close to those benchmarks, although breaking records is not guaranteed.
Along with the unusual warmth, southerly winds could produce gusts between 25 and 35 mph throughout the day.
Residents should secure lightweight outdoor decorations and other loose objects that could be displaced by stronger gusts.
Rain Chances Increase to 80% Tonight Despite Tuesday's dry conditions, the weather pattern is expected to change Tuesday night as moisture spreads into northern Indiana.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 60% to 80% chance of rain overnight, with showers lingering into Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The transition could create wet roads and reduced visibility for drivers traveling Wednesday morning, particularly along Interstate 69, Interstate 80/90 and other heavily traveled routes.
Residents planning outdoor activities Tuesday may want to take advantage of the dry afternoon before rain becomes more widespread overnight.
The combination of near record warmth, gusty winds and returning rainfall marks a notable early November weather shift across northern Indiana.
