Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana could see its first patchy frost of the season Tuesday morning as temperatures fall into the upper 30s in some communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, cool and dry weather will continue through Tuesday, with patchy frost possible mainly north of U.S. 6. The frost potential is localized rather than a statewide freeze, with most of the region remaining around 40 degrees or warmer.
The arrival of colder nights is typical of the transition deeper into fall across Indiana and the Midwest. Frost becomes increasingly common during October, particularly across northern and rural areas where temperatures can fall several degrees lower than in cities.
For northern Indiana, the immediate forecast remains quiet. Sunday will bring highs of 67 to 74 degrees. Monday turns cooler but stays sunny, with morning lows of 41 to 46 and afternoon highs of 62 to 68.
Tuesday morning is expected to be the coldest period. The NWS forecast shows temperatures around 36 degrees near Three Rivers, Michigan, 37 near Adrian and Wauseon, Ohio, and 38 near Hillsdale. Across northern Indiana, readings are generally expected around 39 to 43 degrees, including about 39 in Goshen, 40 in Warsaw and Fort Wayne, and 43 in South Bend.
Patchy frost is most likely near and north of U.S. 6, especially in normally colder rural locations. Tuesday should warm quickly under sunshine, with afternoon highs reaching 65 to 71 degrees.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants in far northern Indiana may want to monitor temperatures Monday night into Tuesday morning.
