FORT WAYNE, IN – A 62 year old Fort Wayne woman has been arrested on preliminary felony murder and burglary charges nearly three months after a shooting investigation left one man dead and another wounded at separate locations in the city.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department , homicide detectives arrested Lorrina Sargent, 62, on Friday, Oct. 9, following an investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred July 14.
The original incident began at approximately 11:56 p.m. when officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 1900 Hillside Avenue and 1400 St. Joseph Boulevard.
When officers arrived, they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds at each location.
One of the men died from his injuries, while the other survived.
Detectives with the Fort Wayne Police Department's Homicide Unit responded and launched a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
During the investigation, authorities identified Sargent as a suspect.
Nearly three months later, investigators located her in the 700 block of Anderson Avenue.
Police said Sargent was taken into custody at approximately 9:51 a.m. Friday without further details about the arrest being released.
The arrest was carried out by the Fort Wayne Police Department's Homicide Unit in cooperation with the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
Sargent was preliminarily charged with felony murder and burglary.
Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between Sargent and the victims or explained what allegedly led to the shooting.
The department also did not release the victims' identities in its October 9 announcement.
The case represents a significant development in the investigation that began during the late night shooting in July.
Additional information about formal charging decisions and upcoming court proceedings was not included in the police statement.
Sargent is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
