Crown Point, IN – A domestic dispute allegedly ended in gunfire Sunday night in unincorporated Crown Point, leaving a 69 year old woman wounded and her 85 year old husband in police custody.
According to the Lake County Sheriff 's Department, officers were dispatched sometime after 9 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 12200 block of Burr Street following a report of an armed man who may have shot his wife.
When officers arrived, they found that the woman had allegedly suffered a gunshot wound but had managed to escape from the home. Police secured the surrounding area and established contact with an 85 year old man inside, whom authorities identified as the woman's husband.
According to the sheriff's department, the man eventually walked out through the home's front door and was taken into custody. Police said a revolver was recovered from inside the residence.
The 69 year old woman was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. Authorities said her condition was last reported as stable.
Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. thanked officers from multiple law enforcement agencies for assisting with the response, saying their work helped authorities make the arrest and prevent additional injuries.
The shooting occurred in unincorporated Crown Point in Lake County, part of Northwest Indiana and the greater Chicago metropolitan area.
Authorities have not released the identities of the husband or wife, and no additional information about potential criminal charges was immediately announced. The incident remains under investigation, and the sheriff's department said no further details would be released Sunday night.
Any allegations have not been proven in court, and the man is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
