CEDAR LAKE, IN – A 31 year old Lake County man has been arrested on six felony child pornography charges following an investigation by Indiana State Police that began with a tip involving suspicious cloud storage activity.
According to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, Jonathon Bachan, 31, of Cedar Lake, was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant following an investigation conducted by the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Authorities announced the arrest Friday, Oct. 9.
Investigators said the case began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children submitted a CyberTipline report involving cloud storage activity allegedly traced to Bachan's residence.
Following the tip, Indiana State Police detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence.
During the investigation, officers seized multiple electronic devices for forensic examination.
The Indiana State Police Digital Forensics Unit subsequently examined the devices and allegedly discovered files containing child sexual abuse material on one of them.
Based on the investigation, Bachan was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail.
He faces three counts of possession of child pornography classified as Level 5 felonies and three additional counts classified as Level 6 felonies under Indiana law.
The investigation involved several law enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police District 13 Criminal Investigations Division, ISP Digital Forensics Unit, Homeland Security Investigations, Cedar Lake Police Department and Lake County Sheriff 's Department.
Authorities did not disclose the number of files allegedly recovered, the specific cloud storage platform involved or additional details about the material.
The Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigates offenses involving the online exploitation of children and works with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
No additional arrests were announced in the initial release.
Bachan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
