Brazil, IN – Drivers traveling Interstate 70 through west central Indiana should prepare for overnight traffic restrictions beginning Monday evening, October 12, as lane and ramp closures affect approximately 35 miles of the highway across Clay and Putnam counties.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation INDOT , contractors will begin closing right lanes along I 70 between Tabortown Street near Brazil at mile marker 16.5 and County Road 1100 West near Little Point at mile marker 51.
The restrictions are scheduled to begin on or after Monday evening and could continue for up to one week, depending on weather conditions.
A westbound entrance ramp at State Road 243 will also close as part of the project.
INDOT issued a reminder Monday, warning motorists about the upcoming overnight restrictions along the busy interstate corridor.
The closures will allow construction crews to install camera towers and digital message signs designed to support traffic monitoring and provide information to motorists.
The affected section connects communities near Brazil in Clay County and Little Point in Putnam County, west of the Indianapolis metropolitan area.
Drivers traveling between Terre Haute and the Indianapolis area may encounter temporary lane restrictions, particularly during overnight construction hours.
Although the work covers a 35 mile corridor, INDOT has not announced a complete shutdown of I 70. The restrictions involve right lane closures and the westbound entrance ramp at State Road 243.
Motorists should allow additional travel time, remain alert for changing traffic patterns and watch for construction crews and equipment.
INDOT encourages drivers to reduce speeds, avoid distractions and use extra caution when approaching work zones.
Because the construction schedule is weather dependent, the timing and duration of restrictions could change.
