Woodridge, IL – A 19 year old Woodridge man will remain detained before trial after prosecutors accused him of leading police on a high speed chase through DuPage County, allegedly striking vehicles and a police squad car before becoming stuck in bushes.
According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, a judge granted the state's motion to detain Laron Robinson before trial. Robinson faces three felony counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, one felony count of criminal damage to government supported property and additional misdemeanor and traffic charges.
Prosecutors allege the incident began around 7:58 p.m. Friday when a Woodridge officer spotted a white Kia sedan near Woodward Avenue. Authorities allege Robinson failed to stop after the officer activated emergency lights and a siren.
The Kia allegedly fled through residential areas, ignored stop signs and was later involved in crashes. Prosecutors said Robinson allegedly reached approximately 50 mph in a 25 mph zone during one portion of the pursuit.
Authorities further allege he drove into oncoming traffic and later reached approximately 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The pursuit eventually reached the 900 block of Rob Roy Place, where an officer positioned a squad car behind the Kia, according to prosecutors. Robinson allegedly reversed into the squad car before driving forward onto a lawn and into bushes, where the Kia became stuck.
He was then taken into custody. Officials said no officers were injured.
Robinson's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 2. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
