WHEATON, IL — A woman accused of driving a getaway vehicle following an alleged $1,694 retail theft in Naperville will remain in custody before trial after authorities said she led police on a high speed chase reaching approximately 82 mph along Chicago area interstates.
According to DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Elmhurst Police Chief Michael McLean, Judge Joshua Dieden granted prosecutors' request to detain 32 year old Arterria Lipsey of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Lipsey faces aggravated fleeing and eluding, burglary, retail theft and multiple traffic related charges.
Alleged Theft Leads to Interstate Pursuit Prosecutors allege Lipsey and 28 year old Shataya Connor of Chicago entered the Alo Yoga store at 19 W. Jefferson Ave. in Naperville and left with approximately $1,694 in clothing without paying.
Shortly afterward, an Elmhurst police officer located the women traveling eastbound on Interstate 290 in a black Dodge Durango allegedly driven by Lipsey.
Authorities said Lipsey allegedly refused to stop when the officer activated emergency lights and siren, accelerating to approximately 82 mph.
The Elmhurst officer ended the pursuit, which Hillside police later resumed.
Spike Strips End Chase on I 294 The pursuit ended on southbound Interstate 294 after the Durango drove over spike strips deployed by Oak Brook police.
Lipsey was taken into custody.
Berlin said the alleged actions placed officers and motorists at serious risk. Authorities reported no injuries to innocent motorists.
Connor also faces burglary and retail theft charges, according to prosecutors.
Lipsey's next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2026 , before Judge Brian Telander. Connor is scheduled to appear Nov. 10 before Judge Mia McPherson.
Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
