West Chicago, IL – A moped rider suffered serious injuries after colliding with an on duty Illinois State Police officer near DuPage Airport on Wednesday afternoon, October 14, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to Illinois State Police Troop 3, the collision occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. Wednesday as an on duty state police officer was exiting the airport grounds onto Tower Road in DuPage County.
Authorities said the officer collided with a moped, causing the rider to be ejected from the vehicle.
Officers at the scene immediately rendered assistance to the injured rider while awaiting emergency medical services.
The moped driver was subsequently transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Illinois State Police confirmed that the officer involved in the collision was not physically injured.
The Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation is handling the investigation, which remains open and ongoing.
Officials have not released the identity of the injured moped rider or provided an update on the person's current medical condition.
Investigators have also not disclosed whether speed, visibility, traffic conditions or other factors contributed to the collision.
