Villa Park, IL – Emergency crews were called to a residence in the 1500 block of S. Euclid Avenue early Thursday morning following reports of a structure fire. Residents were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
According to the Villa Park Fire Department , the blaze was reported at approximately 3:45 a.m. on September 17, 2026, after a nearby business employee noticed smoke and fire emanating from the rear of the property. Police officers from Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace arrived on the scene promptly to evacuate the occupants.
Upon arrival, Villa Park Engine 81 crews observed flames and smoke coming from the eaves on the second floor. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and gained access to the attic area above a rear bedroom, where they were able to contain the fire before it could spread throughout the home.
During the operation, crews ensured all occupants—including a family kitten found in the basement—were kept safe. The home sustained water damage and fire impact to a small section of the roof, but overall structural damage was limited.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Villa Park Fire Investigation Unit suggests the fire was likely ignited by decorative low voltage lighting installed in the eaves. Although the home was equipped with working smoke detectors, the fire did not generate sufficient smoke to trigger them.
The Villa Park Fire Department received significant support from surrounding agencies, including the Addison, Elmhurst, Lombard, Oak Brook, and York Center fire departments, as well as local police units. The home was searched to ensure total extinguishment, and crews remained on site to perform ventilation and mop up operations.
