Urbana, IL – A residential fire in Champaign County prompted a response from multiple fire departments Friday afternoon, October 9, as emergency crews rushed to a home in Urbana Township. All occupants escaped safely, and authorities have launched an investigation into what caused the fire.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded at approximately 1:18 p.m. Friday to the 2400 block of East Oregon Street after receiving a report of a residential structure fire.
When deputies arrived, they learned that everyone inside the residence had already evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.
The emergency response involved several agencies from across Champaign County, highlighting the coordinated effort needed to bring the situation under control.
Firefighters from the Edge Scott Fire Protection District , Urbana Fire Department, Philo Fire Protection District and St. Joseph Stanton Fire Protection District responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames.
Carle Arrow Ambulance also responded, providing additional emergency support while firefighters handled the incident.
The investigation now involves the Specialized Investigative Fire Team and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, both assisting the Champaign County Sheriff's Office in determining the fire's origin and cause.
Authorities have not disclosed what may have started the fire, how extensively the residence was damaged or whether the property remains habitable.
The Sheriff's Office confirmed that the investigation remains active and that no further details are being released at this time.
The incident occurred in Urbana Township, near the Champaign Urbana metropolitan area, where several neighboring fire protection districts assisted with the emergency response.
Officials expressed appreciation for the assistance and cooperation of the responding agencies.
