Springfield, IL – A stormy stretch of weather is approaching central Illinois, with patchy fog Monday, Nov. 2, followed by increasingly strong winds, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms Tuesday, Nov. 3, into Wednesday, Nov. 4.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a stronger storm system will move through the region early this week, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms after a mild start to November.
Sunday, Nov. 1, will feature scattered light rain showers, with precipitation chances between 20% and 40%. Afternoon temperatures will reach 61 to 67 degrees.
By Monday, Nov. 2, temperatures are expected to climb between 68 and 72 degrees. Patchy fog and drizzle during the morning could reduce visibility for commuters, while breezy conditions develop later in the day.
The greatest weather impacts are expected Tuesday, Nov. 3, when highs could reach 72 to 76 degrees.
Rain chances will increase to between 50% and 90% Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms likely across portions of central Illinois. Tuesday night brings another 70% to 80% chance of precipitation, with heavier rainfall possible.
Strong winds are also expected Monday and especially Tuesday, potentially creating challenging travel conditions along major routes, including Interstates 55, 72 and 74.
By Wednesday, Nov. 4, lingering showers and thunderstorms remain possible, with precipitation chances between 40% and 70%. Temperatures will range from 65 to 70 degrees.
A cooling trend develops Thursday, Nov. 5, with highs between 63 and 67 degrees and only a slight chance of additional showers.
Overnight lows will gradually fall into the 40s by Thursday night.
Residents throughout Springfield, Sangamon County and surrounding central Illinois communities should monitor updated forecasts ahead of Tuesday's heavier rain and windy conditions.
