Springfield, IL – Illinois wheat producers will vote Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, to fill three seats on the Illinois Wheat Development Board, with eligible growers able to participate as write in candidates after no formal petitions were filed.
According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture , elections will be held for one representative each from Wheat Development Board Districts 3 and 6, along with one statewide at large member.
To qualify as a write in candidate for a district seat, a producer must be of legal voting age, live in the district and be a qualified Illinois wheat producer. Candidates seeking the at large position may live in any Wheat Development Board district.
District 3 includes counties across east central and southeastern Illinois, including Champaign, Vermilion, Coles, Effingham, Marion and surrounding counties.
District 6 covers much of far southern Illinois, including Alexander, Williamson, Massac, Saline, Union, Wayne, White and other counties.
In person voting will be available at county Farm Bureau offices throughout Illinois during normal business hours on Oct. 28.
Producers who cannot vote in person may request an absentee ballot from IDOA. The department lists 217 524 1083 as a contact number for absentee ballot information. Additional information is available from the Illinois Wheat Association at 309 557 3619 .
The election will determine who fills the three vacant positions on the board, which represents wheat producers from designated regions across Illinois.
Because no formal petitions were submitted for the vacancies, the October election will depend on eligible write in candidates participating in the process.
