Springfield, IL — Residents across central Illinois can expect an extended stretch of unusually warm and dry October weather from Thursday, Oct. 22, through Monday, Oct. 26, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 70s and some communities approaching 80 degrees before the new workweek begins.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, above normal temperatures and dry conditions will continue through the weekend and into early next week. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, comfortable afternoons and overnight temperatures generally remaining in the 40s and lower 50s.
Thursday will bring abundant sunshine with afternoon highs between 73 and 77 degrees. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 44 and 51 degrees.
Friday will remain sunny, with highs ranging from 72 to 76 degrees and overnight lows between 42 and 50 degrees.
The favorable weather pattern will continue Saturday, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching 72 to 75 degrees. Overnight lows should range from 44 to 52 degrees.
Sunday could bring some of the warmest conditions of the five day period, with afternoon temperatures climbing between 75 and 78 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Similar conditions are expected Monday, when highs could again reach 73 to 78 degrees.
The extended dry spell may provide favorable conditions for outdoor activities, fall events and agricultural fieldwork across central Illinois. However, continued dry weather could also leave exposed vegetation and fields increasingly dry.
Despite the warmer than normal afternoons, residents should prepare for cooler mornings, particularly when temperatures dip into the lower 40s.
The National Weather Service has not indicated a significant temperature cooldown or widespread rainfall in its five day outlook through Monday.
