Springfield, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for a sharp shift toward colder overnight weather this weekend, with temperatures potentially falling below freezing in some communities after scattered showers move through the region Thursday, Nov. 5.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a weak weather boundary will move across central Illinois Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing scattered showers primarily to the northern half of the region.
Rain chances will reach approximately 30% Thursday afternoon, particularly in areas north of Interstate 72, including portions of the Bloomington, Champaign and Danville region.
Temperatures Could Fall Below Freezing Friday Night
Thursday afternoon highs are expected to range from 53 to 63 degrees across central Illinois.
By Friday, Nov. 6, temperatures will turn cooler, with daytime highs falling to between 48 and 56 degrees.
The most significant change arrives Friday night, when overnight lows are forecast to drop to 29 34 degrees.
Similar conditions are expected Saturday night, with lows between 29 and 33 degrees.
These temperatures could bring freezing conditions to some communities, particularly in areas where readings fall below 32 degrees.
Rain Chances Fade Before Weekend
Thursday's scattered showers may create occasional wet roadways during afternoon and evening travel.
Rain chances decrease substantially Friday, with mostly dry conditions expected through the weekend.
Saturday afternoon highs should range from 51 to 55 degrees, followed by a warmer Sunday with highs between 58 and 60 degrees.
Warmer Weather Returns Monday
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to rebound Monday, Nov. 9, with afternoon highs reaching 62 66 degrees.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should monitor overnight temperatures Friday and Saturday, particularly where freezing readings are possible.
Despite the chilly nights, the weekend forecast favors improving skies and generally dry travel conditions across central Illinois.
