Schaumburg, IL – With another Chicago area winter approaching, Schaumburg residents can get a behind the scenes look at how local crews prepare for snow and ice during a special program next Thursday.
According to the Village of Schaumburg, Engineering and Public Works staff will present “Winter Ready: Snow & Ice Operations” from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Schaumburg Township District Library.
The presentation will give residents a closer look at what happens behind the scenes when snow enters the forecast and village crews begin preparing for winter conditions.
Residents have two ways to participate. The program will be held in person at the library, while those who cannot attend can watch online through Zoom. Registration is required for either option and is available through the Schaumburg Township District Library’s website.
The event comes as communities across Cook County and the northwest Chicago suburbs prepare equipment, personnel and winter response plans ahead of the colder months.
Schaumburg’s Engineering and Public Works Department handles a range of infrastructure and public services throughout the village. Snow and ice operations become particularly visible during winter storms, when road conditions can quickly affect commutes, schools, businesses and other daily travel.
Thursday’s presentation is part of the Village of Schaumburg Speaker’s Bureau, a program designed to give residents an inside look at municipal operations, programs and services.
While the program focuses on winter preparedness, the village announcement is not a forecast for an approaching snowstorm . Instead, the Oct. 15 event is intended to show residents how crews prepare before snow and ice arrive and how local winter operations work.
