Rockford, IL – Three people, including a 17 year old, were cited or charged following a Tuesday night protest related incident at a Rockford hotel, where police said officers responded to complaints of trespassing and excessive noise.
According to the Rockford Police Department , officers were called to the Radisson Hotel on East State Street at approximately 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Police said the number of people on the property increased and participants began using bullhorns and whistles.
Officers advised those present of the city's noise ordinance and warned that continued violations could result in citations, according to the department.
Police identified Ariel Perez of Rockford as receiving an ordinance violation. Jessi Olazaba of Aurora was cited for an ordinance violation and allegedly resisting or obstructing. A 17 year old Rockford boy also received an ordinance violation and was accused of allegedly resisting or obstructing.
The department also addressed social media posts alleging the juvenile suffered a broken arm during his arrest. Police said the allegation was investigated and determined to be false. According to the department, the juvenile was later evaluated at a local medical facility and released.
Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd said officers had given those present an opportunity to resolve the situation without additional enforcement action. She also said the department takes allegations involving police conduct seriously and investigates them.
Police said they have been informed of additional protests and peace walks planned in the Rockford area and that officers will be present to help maintain safety and order.
The charges are accusations, and those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
