Rockford, IL Murder Charge Filed After 19-Year-Old Dies

Rockford, IL – Rockford police are searching for a 21 year old man charged with first degree murder and other offenses after a 19 year old shooting victim died Saturday morning.
According to the Rockford Police Department , officers responded around 5 p.m. Friday to the area of Miriam Avenue and Andrews Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers found a 19 year old man suffering from what police described as a life threatening gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died Saturday morning, police said. Authorities did not identify the victim in the Saturday news release.
Rockford police detectives continued investigating the shooting and identified 21 year old Mauri Scott of Rockford as the alleged suspect. Police said a warrant was issued charging Scott with first degree murder, aggravated battery, armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card.
As of the department's Saturday announcement, Scott was not in custody . Police said additional charges and arrests remain possible as the investigation continues.
The shooting occurred in Rockford, the Winnebago County seat and the largest city in northern Illinois outside the Chicago metropolitan area.

The charges are accusations. Scott is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
