Rockford, IL – Firefighters battled heavy flames at a large vacant commercial building early Tuesday in Rockford, with fire breaking through the roof as crews arrived and damage estimated at $100,000.
According to the Rockford Fire Department , firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3:08 a.m. Tuesday to a structure fire in the 500 block of Buckbee Street.
First arriving crews discovered a large, vacant commercial building with heavy fire in the front portion of the structure. Flames were already coming through the roof, according to the department.
Photos released by the fire department show intense flames and thick smoke rising from the building as firefighters worked around the structure. Multiple crews can be seen operating at the scene, including firefighters using an aerial ladder to attack the fire.
Despite the extent of the flames, firefighters brought the blaze under control within approximately 15 minutes of their response, the department said.
No firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident.
Officials estimated the total property loss at approximately $100,000 . The fire department did not immediately provide additional information about the building's previous use or how long it had been vacant.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday morning. No information about a possible ignition source was announced in the department's initial update.
Residents traveling through the Buckbee Street area could see emergency crews working at the property during the early morning response.
