Peoria, IL – A 32 year old woman was seriously injured in a shooting Tuesday night after police received multiple ShotSpotter alerts indicating 20 rounds were fired within roughly three minutes on Peoria's South Side.
According to the Peoria Police Department , officers responded at approximately 7:19 p.m. Tuesday to reports of gunfire near South Friedan and South Griswold streets.
Police said the first ShotSpotter alert came from the 2000 block of South Friedan at 7:19 p.m. and indicated 16 rounds had been fired. About a minute later, another alert detected three rounds in the 2000 block of South Griswold.
A third alert at 7:21 p.m. indicated another round had been fired in the 2000 block of South Friedan, bringing the total number of reported rounds to 20.
Responding officers found a 32 year old woman lying on the ground in the 2000 block of South Friedan. Police said she had suffered a single gunshot wound.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said she was listed in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Officers from the department's Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit and Patrol Unit responded and began investigating the shooting.
As of the department's latest update, police had not released information about a suspect. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
