Peoria, IL – With the 2026 Christmas season approaching, the Peoria Police Department is launching its annual Holiday with Heroes program, bringing gifts and holiday celebrations to children and families experiencing hardships across the Peoria community.
According to the Peoria Police Department, the initiative aims to ensure children who might otherwise go without Christmas presents can experience the excitement of the holiday season while building positive relationships with local law enforcement.
Last year, the program provided holiday gifts to 166 children from 53 families, demonstrating the impact of community donations and volunteer support.
This year's program introduces a new partnership with the Community Foundation of Central Illinois CFCI , making it easier for residents and businesses to contribute.
Donations can now be submitted online, through QR codes or by check. Contributions processed through CFCI will receive tax deductible receipts, according to the department.
Funds will directly support purchasing Christmas gifts and organizing a holiday celebration where participating children can meet Peoria police officers, volunteers and Santa Claus.
"The Peoria Police Department remains committed to uplifting local families and strengthening community connections," Peoria Police Chief Brad Dixon said.
The program also emphasizes building trust, encouraging communication and creating meaningful interactions between officers and the families they serve.
CFCI President and CEO Mark Roberts said the foundation is honored to support the annual tradition and help establish the Holiday with Heroes Fund.
The partnership is designed to connect community members who want to give with families facing financial or physical hardships during the holidays.
Residents interested in contributing can visit the Community Foundation of Central Illinois website at communityfoundationci.org for donation information.
With Christmas approaching, organizers hope community generosity will help make the season brighter for local children.
