Peoria, IL – Families preparing for Halloween in Peoria now have confirmed trick or treat hours for 2026, along with an opportunity to celebrate early at a free community event hosted by the Peoria Police Department .
According to the Peoria Police Department, official trick or treat hours are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. , giving families a two hour window for neighborhood Halloween activities.
Police also announced their annual Halloween celebration will take place Friday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peoria Police Headquarters, located at 600 SW Adams St.
The event will offer families a festive environment where children can trick or treat, receive candy and interact with officers and department staff.
Costumes are encouraged, and the department says plenty of candy will be available.
With Halloween approaching, police are reminding parents and caregivers to prioritize visibility and pedestrian safety.
Officials recommend trick or treating during daylight whenever possible, accompanying younger children and choosing bright or reflective costumes.
Families should also use sidewalks and designated crosswalks, carry flashlights or glow sticks after dark and inspect collected candy before children eat it.
Additional guidance from the Illinois Poison Center recommends selecting nonflammable costumes, ensuring masks do not obstruct vision and testing costume makeup on a small area of skin before use.
The center also warns that glow stick liquid can cause irritation and that dry ice should be handled carefully because of potential burns and carbon dioxide buildup in poorly ventilated areas.
The police department encourages residents to enjoy the upcoming festivities while taking precautions to keep children safe.
Peoria's official Halloween trick or treat hours remain 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
Families can attend the police department's early Halloween event Friday, Oct. 23, during the same evening hours.
