Peoria, IL – A 24 year old man has been arrested after Peoria police say a bullet fired earlier this month tore through an office building, passed through several cubicles and struck an employee on the shoulder.
According to the Peoria Police Department , officers responded Sept. 4 to the 2400 block of North Knoxville Avenue after a ShotSpotter alert indicated six rounds had been fired.
When officers arrived, they found an adult female employee who had been struck by a projectile. Police said the bullet allegedly entered through the office’s front window, traveled through several cubicle partitions and an office wall, then hit the employee’s shoulder before landing intact on her desk.
Despite being struck, the woman was not injured, according to police.
Investigators also determined that a vehicle carrying two people had allegedly been fired upon as it left a nearby parking lot. Neither person inside that vehicle was injured.
Detectives later identified 24 year old Shon L. Graves as a suspect in the investigation, police said.
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, Peoria detectives, assisted by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, located Graves at a residence in the 2800 block of West Flint Street. Police said he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Peoria Police Department.
Graves was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated battery and reckless discharge of a firearm and transported to the Peoria County Jail.
The charges are allegations, and Graves is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Police said the investigation remains active. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309 673 4521, tip411 anonymously or Crime Stoppers at 309 673 9000.
