Peoria County, IL – A late night UTV rollover crash near Brimfield left a 50 year old woman dead Saturday, October 24, and resulted in the arrest of a 52 year old driver who now faces DUI related charges.
According to the Peoria County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded at approximately 10:59 p.m. Saturday to the 5600 block of North Kickapoo Edwards Road after receiving reports of a utility terrain vehicle rollover involving injuries on private property.
When emergency crews arrived, they discovered the UTV overturned on its side. A 50 year old woman was found partially pinned beneath the vehicle.
Personnel from the Brimfield Fire Department and Advanced Medical Transport attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that four people had been riding in the UTV when the crash occurred.
The driver was identified as Joshua A. Bellamy, 52.
According to investigators, the vehicle allegedly left a paved driveway or path, struck a wooden post and overturned.
During the investigation, deputies reported observing signs of impairment from Bellamy. Authorities said he refused standardized field sobriety testing and chemical testing.
Bellamy was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Peoria County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and aggravated DUI.
Detectives with the sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division obtained a search warrant, allowing investigators to collect evidentiary blood and urine samples as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Peoria County coroner is expected to release the deceased woman's identity at a later time.
Authorities have not released additional information about the other occupants or their conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing. The DUI charges are allegations, and Bellamy is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
