Peoria, IL – With November 2026 approaching, central Illinois residents have a striking reminder of how quickly late fall weather can turn wintry. Last November, Peoria recorded more than 5 inches of snow in a single day, breaking a decades old daily snowfall record as temperatures dropped toward the end of the month.
According to National Weather Service climate statistics, Peoria received 5.5 inches of snowfall during November 2025, well above the monthly normal of approximately 1.5 inches.
The most significant snowfall occurred Nov. 29, when 5.2 inches fell, breaking the previous daily record of 0.8 inches established in 1937.
Two Snow Records Broken in Late November The late month snowfall produced another milestone Nov. 30, when Peoria reported 4 inches of snow on the ground.
That broke the previous daily snow depth record of 3 inches, established in 1942.
The accumulation illustrated how quickly snow covered conditions can develop before December officially begins.
November also brought substantial temperature changes.
Peoria's warmest temperature reached 73 degrees, while the coldest dropped to 19 degrees.
The monthly average temperature was 42.8 degrees, approximately 0.9 degrees above normal.
Despite the slightly warmer than average month, temperatures fell to freezing or below on 13 days.
Below Normal Precipitation Despite Snowfall Peoria recorded 1.62 inches of total precipitation during November, approximately 1.07 inches below normal.
Measurable precipitation occurred on nine days, with the largest daily amount reaching 0.47 inches.
The combination of above normal snowfall and below normal overall precipitation demonstrates how winter weather can develop even during relatively dry months.
What November 2025 Means for 2026 For residents throughout Peoria County and central Illinois, last November offers a timely reminder to prepare vehicles, check winter supplies and review travel plans before the season's first significant snowfall.
The historical figures do not predict another major snowfall in November 2026.
However, they demonstrate that accumulating snow and freezing temperatures can arrive before the calendar reaches December.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts for current conditions and potential winter weather threats.
