Paxton, IL – A major commercial fire in Ford County drew firefighters from multiple central Illinois communities Monday afternoon after an explosion was reported at a warehouse in Paxton, where responding crews encountered several structures already engulfed in flames.
According to the Paxton Fire Department , firefighters were dispatched to the warehouse shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, following reports of a commercial structure fire accompanied by an explosion.
When the first crews arrived, they encountered multiple fully involved structures, prompting an immediate request for additional firefighting resources.
Multiple Departments Called to Battle Flames
Automatic mutual aid was dispatched from Buckley and Loda, with additional assistance requested shortly afterward from numerous surrounding fire departments.
The scale of the response reflected the challenges firefighters faced as flames spread across multiple structures at the commercial property.
Photographs released by the Paxton Fire Department show heavily damaged buildings, charred exterior walls and debris scattered around the site. Fire trucks equipped with extended aerial ladders were also pictured operating at the scene.
The department did not specify how many structures were damaged or provide an estimated dollar amount for the losses.
Community Rallies Behind Firefighters
As emergency crews worked at the scene, residents and local businesses stepped forward to support the response.
The department specifically thanked Murdocks in Loda for providing food to firefighters and recognized community members who delivered drinks and sandwiches to first responders.
Officials also expressed appreciation to the neighboring departments that sent personnel and equipment.
The Fire Department's statement did not identify the cause of the fire, confirm the source of the reported explosion or provide information about possible injuries.
