New Lenox, IL – Families facing financial hardship this holiday season may qualify for assistance through the Village of New Lenox's 2026 Adopt A Family Program, while residents and businesses have only days remaining to sign up as sponsors.
According to the Village of New Lenox, the annual holiday assistance initiative is officially underway, with a Wednesday, November 4, deadline for sponsorship applications and a Friday, November 13, deadline for families requesting support .
The program connects local families in need with community members, businesses and organizations willing to provide holiday assistance.
Nearly 90 Families Helped in Previous Years
Village officials report that the program has received 195 sponsorship applications over the past two holiday seasons.
During that period, 89 local families were adopted, and more than $6,000 in donated gift cards was collected to provide additional support.
The village hopes to build on that participation as the 2026 holiday season approaches.
Sponsors and Gift Card Donations Needed
Residents, families, businesses and community organizations can apply to sponsor a local family.
Those unable to sponsor an entire household can still contribute through gift card donations.
The gift cards help families purchase groceries, household essentials and other necessities during the holiday season.
Families Can Apply for Assistance
New Lenox officials are also encouraging families experiencing financial difficulties to submit applications for holiday support.
The application process is available online only, with separate deadlines for sponsors and families seeking assistance.
Important dates include:
November 4: Sponsorship application deadline. November 13: Family support application deadline. Applications and additional program information are available at www.newlenox.net/adoptafamily .
The village encourages residents to share the opportunity with friends, coworkers and local businesses that may wish to participate.
With the first deadline approaching next week, prospective sponsors are encouraged to apply before Wednesday.
