New Lenox, IL – Residents in Will County have an opportunity to help neighbors stay warm this fall as the New Lenox Police Department brings back its annual coat drive, offering free coats to individuals and families in need throughout October.
According to the New Lenox Police Department, the community wide collection runs through Saturday, October 31, with gently used coats being accepted at designated locations across the village.
Where Residents Can Donate Coats
The annual initiative encourages residents to donate gently used coats that can be distributed to people who may otherwise struggle to afford winter clothing.
Students and families in New Lenox School District 122 are encouraged to participate by bringing donations to their schools.
Community members can also drop off coats at New Lenox Village Hall or the New Lenox Police Department.
The department hopes the effort will help local residents prepare for colder temperatures as fall transitions into winter.
How to Receive a Free Winter Coat
Unlike traditional clothing drives, the New Lenox program uses a voucher system that allows individuals in need to obtain a coat free of charge.
Residents with a voucher can visit Morning Star Treasure Chest II, located at 2571 E. Lincoln Highway in New Lenox, to redeem it for a free coat.
According to police, vouchers will remain available throughout the duration of the October coat drive.
The department's announcement does not specify where residents should initially obtain vouchers, so those interested should contact the New Lenox Police Department for additional guidance.
Coat Drive Continues Through October 31
The collection began October 1 and continues through the end of the month, giving residents additional time to donate before colder weather arrives.
Organizers are encouraging the community to participate by contributing usable coats and helping neighbors prepare for the upcoming winter season.
Residents can follow the New Lenox Police Department for additional information about donations and voucher availability.
