Moline, IL – Residents across the Quad Cities and surrounding communities should prepare for a potentially freezing Friday night as temperatures drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s following several days of cloudy, damp weather.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, an upper level storm system will continue bringing cloudy skies and periodic light rain or drizzle through Thursday, Nov. 5, before colder and drier conditions develop heading into the weekend.
The most significant temperature change is expected Friday night, Nov. 6, when overnight lows could fall between 26 and 31 degrees across the forecast region.
Friday Night Temperatures Could Drop Below Freezing
Thursday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 50 and 54 degrees, with a 30% to 40% chance of light rain or drizzle.
By Thursday night, temperatures will fall to between 34 and 40 degrees, with lingering precipitation chances of 15% to 20%.
Friday will bring cooler afternoon highs ranging from 46 to 49 degrees.
However, temperatures could fall considerably after sunset, with overnight lows reaching the upper 20s in colder locations.
Freezing Conditions Could Affect Outdoor Plants
Temperatures below 32 degrees could damage sensitive vegetation, especially in areas that have not experienced a significant freeze this season.
Residents may want to protect vulnerable outdoor plants and check exposed water connections before Friday night.
The forecast does not indicate widespread snowfall or significant winter precipitation.
Weekend Brings Improving Conditions
Saturday, Nov. 7, should bring partly cloudy skies and afternoon highs between 50 and 53 degrees.
Overnight temperatures Saturday are expected to range from 30 to 34 degrees, allowing another opportunity for freezing conditions in some communities.
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to remain closer to seasonal averages through the remainder of the workweek.
Residents traveling during early morning hours should prepare for colder conditions, particularly Saturday morning when temperatures could be at their lowest.
