Marengo, IL – Two drivers suffered severe, life threatening injuries Thursday afternoon when a minivan and septic truck collided at an intersection in unincorporated Marengo, according to authorities.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff ’s Office, emergency crews responded at 2:41 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, to the intersection of Maple Street and Coral Road in unincorporated Marengo, northwest of Chicago.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2026 Honda Odyssey was traveling north on Maple Street when it failed to yield at a stop sign at Coral Road, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities said the Odyssey entered the intersection and was struck by a westbound 2016 Kenworth septic truck. The truck did not have a stop sign.
The front of the Kenworth struck the passenger side of the Odyssey, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and come to rest in a ditch on the northwest corner of the intersection, according to investigators.
The Odyssey's driver and sole occupant, a 39 year old Woodstock woman, suffered severe, life threatening injuries. She was transported to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford.
The septic truck's driver, a 63 year old Harvard man, also suffered severe, life threatening injuries and was transported to the same hospital. Authorities did not provide updated conditions for either driver.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the collision.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Marengo police, Marengo Fire & Rescue and the Huntley Fire Protection District .
