Lockport, IL – The Will County Sheriff 's Office is asking for public assistance after investigators uncovered evidence of an unreported shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Weslyan Street. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at approximately 5:25 p.m., went unnoticed by emergency services at the time, as no calls were made to the Sheriff's office or the Laraway Communications Center.
According to the department, detectives discovered the gunfire while they were on site investigating an unrelated matter. Because the event was not reported when it occurred, law enforcement is now working to piece together the sequence of events. Officials are requesting that any residents living in the immediate vicinity check their private video surveillance systems for footage recorded between 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on the date of the incident.
Authorities are also urging homeowners and business owners to inspect their properties for any unexplained damage that may have been caused by stray gunfire. The Sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of locating any potential witnesses who may have observed suspicious vehicles or individuals in the area around the time the shots were fired.
Those with information regarding the incident are encouraged to reach out to the Will County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division by phone at 815 727 8574 or by email at Investigations@willcosheriff.org.
