LOCKPORT & MANHATTAN, Ill. – The City of Lockport and Manhattan Park District are among the 19 recipients of over $3.7 million in grants for trail improvement projects across the state, Illinois Department of Natural Resources IDNR officials announced this week.
The grants, administered by the IDNR, are funded by the federal Recreational Trails Program. The program provides funding for the rehabilitation of existing trails, development of new trails, and purchase of trail construction and maintenance equipment.
Lockport was awarded $200,000 for the Hickory Creek Bikeway project, while the Manhattan Park District received $200,000 for the Round Barn Farm trail development.
“These grants are a testament to our ongoing commitment to expanding and enhancing recreational opportunities for Illinois residents,” IDNR Director Natalie Phelps Finnie said. “These projects will create safer, more accessible trails for families to enjoy across the state.”
