Lockport, IL – Artists have until Oct. 24 to submit work for a new Lockport exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and the communities, businesses and roadside attractions associated with the historic highway.
According to the Gaylord Building Historic Site and Gallery Seven, the organizations are partnering to present "Roadside Attractions: Art and History on Route 66" from Nov. 12 through March 24, 2027, at the Gaylord Building, 200 W. Eighth St. in downtown Lockport.
Gallery Seven is seeking original two dimensional and three dimensional artwork inspired by Route 66. The juried exhibition will include cash prizes, along with a People's Choice Award determined by visitors.
The submission deadline is Oct. 24. Artists can find complete submission requirements and other details through Gallery Seven's website.
Organizers said the exhibition will combine original artwork curated by Gallery Seven with historical interpretation developed by the Gaylord Building. The exhibit will explore Route 66 in Illinois and beyond, including communities connected by the highway, roadside businesses that served generations of travelers and the road's lasting role in American culture.
An opening reception is scheduled for Nov. 12, when visitors will have an opportunity to meet participating artists, view the exhibition and enjoy light refreshments. A Route 66 themed Think & Drink program is also planned that evening, with additional details expected closer to the event.
The Gaylord Building dates to 1838 and was constructed during development of the Illinois & Michigan Canal. Gallery Seven, founded in Joliet in 2007, moved into the historic downtown Lockport building in 2018.
The Route 66 exhibition will remain open into spring 2027.
