Lincoln, Illinois – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across central Illinois this afternoon and evening, bringing a risk of isolated damaging wind gusts. The threat, categorized as a level 1 risk, will be most pronounced in the southeastern portions of the state.
According to the National Weather Service , the primary hazards associated with this activity include wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated hail smaller than quarter size. These storms are moving in ahead of a cold front, with the highest probability for severe weather occurring from mid afternoon into early evening.
