Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents are facing an unusual October weather pattern this weekend, with clouds and scattered rain chances Saturday giving way to sunshine Sunday and potentially record breaking warmth Monday, October 12. Afternoon temperatures could approach 90 degrees across much of the region, with some communities climbing into the lower 90s.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Lincoln , the remnants of Hurricane Isaias are expected to spread cloud cover across much of central Illinois Saturday, October 10, although rainfall should remain limited.
Any associated showers are expected mainly near and east of Interstate 57 Saturday night, including portions of the Kankakee, Champaign and Danville areas.
Rain chances in eastern Illinois are around 40%, with overnight temperatures generally falling into the middle and upper 50s.
Farther west, including Peoria and Springfield, Saturday afternoon highs should reach 81 to 84 degrees, with overnight lows between 54 and 57 degrees.
Sunday, October 11, brings improving conditions , as skies gradually clear from west to east.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach 81 to 86 degrees across western and central portions of the forecast area, while eastern communities experience highs between 79 and 83 degrees.
The biggest weather change arrives Monday.
Forecasters expect unseasonably warm temperatures to peak Monday afternoon, with highs reaching 87 to 92 degrees across western and central Illinois and 88 to 91 degrees farther east.
The NWS indicates that some daily record high temperatures could be broken as the region experiences warmth more typical of summer than mid October.
Communities along the I 57 corridor, including Kankakee, Champaign and Effingham, could experience particularly noticeable warmth.
Tuesday remains warm, with forecast highs ranging from 78 to 89 degrees across the region.
Residents planning outdoor activities should prepare for warmer than normal afternoon conditions and monitor updated forecasts as Monday approaches.
