Lincoln, IL – Residents across central Illinois should prepare for a sharp overnight cooldown Friday, November 6, as temperatures fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s, bringing the potential for freezing conditions Saturday morning before a significant warmup arrives Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, lingering light rain and drizzle early Friday will give way to clearing skies later in the day and overnight, allowing temperatures to drop near or below freezing.
Friday afternoon highs are expected to range from 47 to 54 degrees across central Illinois, with considerably colder conditions developing after sunset.
By early Saturday, November 7, overnight lows could fall between 27 and 32 degrees, creating freezing conditions in several communities.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider bringing them indoors or covering them before temperatures drop.
The cold weather will continue into Saturday night, with lows ranging from 28 to 35 degrees heading into Sunday morning.
Despite the chilly start, Saturday afternoon temperatures will rebound into the 50 to 55 degree range under partly cloudy skies.
A more noticeable warming trend arrives Sunday, November 8, when afternoon highs are forecast to reach 60 to 63 degrees.
By Monday, temperatures could climb even higher, reaching 64 to 68 degrees across central Illinois.
Tuesday will bring similarly mild conditions, with afternoon highs ranging from 63 to 68 degrees.
The National Weather Service expects dry weather to dominate much of the upcoming week, with precipitation chances generally remaining below 10% through Tuesday.
Overnight temperatures will also moderate, rising into the 40 to 44 degree range Monday night before settling between 36 and 41 degrees Tuesday night.
The rapid temperature changes mean residents may need winter clothing during early morning hours but lighter layers for afternoon activities.
Motorists should also remain alert for possible frost on exposed surfaces during the coldest overnight periods.
